Aww the last blog assignment..

You, Me and Politics blog is a good commentary on how expensive a new medicine is for cancer patients. My response was, "Wow! $30,000/month for medicine?! That is what some people make in a year! How insane to make it expensive to fight cancer...to live. It's really sad how people are just so greedy for money. I had no idea about any of this, seeing as I have no cable, but this seems like a very controversial topic that I will be keeping up with in the future! Thank you for having a blog that's very informative and interesting that I can actually pay attention to until the end!"

War, huh, yeah..what is it good for absolutely NOTHING!

So Obama plans to send in 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

Why?

Because he believes it is in our "vital national interest" and that "our security is at stake."

Do I agree with him?

No and Yes.

I have 4 close friends and 2 family members who are probably going to be sent back to Afghanistan. I've already had my cousin die in Iraq...I don't need anymore deaths in my life, and I'm sure that goes the same for other families.

But then I really doubt he would send 30,000 troops if we didn't need them. At least as of now in 18 months he'll start sending the troops back!!

All I can hope is that all goes well and that everyone comes home alive...

You, me, and Politics is a very clear commentary about Obama's health plan. I hate it when people try to use unnecessary vocabulary and just waste a bunch of space with words, rather than have everyone read it and understand the point..well she did the opposite and it was very smooth. The only thing I would've liked to see is her go more in depth about Obama's plan. Like, what are the bad things about it (rather than just the debt) and is this good or bad for people with pre-existing conditions? Is the quality of the health services going to plummet? From what I hear those are the things that people are worried about the most, but overall she did a great job!

13 dead and dozens wounded

So to kill people because you don't want to do what you signed up for is just plain...stupid!

Yesterday many people were injured because of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan not wanting to go overseas, resulting in him shooting soldiers in Fort Hood. What's ironic is that he is the military psychiatrist. He has never been to Iraq, but from seeing all the side effects from the other soldiers, he decided that he didn't want to go. But isn't that his job? If everyone got to choose whether or not they wanted to go fight and risk getting killed, then there would be no military.

Hasan ended up getting shot by a firearms instructor, unfortunately she got shot in the process.
They are both in stable condition and Hassan can be expecting questions from the police, military, and the FBI.

Even Obama had something to say to this horrific event.

It's horrible that there have been so many mass shootings in America, but it makes you realize that life is short and you should always live as though today is your last.

False advertising

So here is a blog about Fox News by Jason Linkins. Linkins's audience is aimed towards people who maybe don't like Fox News, or don't like one-sided news.

Linkins talks about how Fox claimed to have the only coverage over the Tea Party protest that took place September 9th, which turned out to be false. Pretty much every other channel did except Fox. Fox only promoted it using a picture that was taken by CNN (which really angered Rick Sanchez). I think it was unprofessional that Fox promoted being the only one there (when they obviously weren't), but that doesn't mean you should hate the channel.

I really don't get why people are so concerned about Fox being more conservative rather than balanced. If they don't want to be balanced then they don't have to, but that's just my thought. Well I guess it might have to do with fox advertising that they "cover all the news", but don't.

Hmm..does someone smell false advertising?

GUNS!

So the Supreme Court wants to decide for us whether or not we can possess a gun. So should we just rip up the Constitution now or later? Whether or not there is a gun ban, bad people will carry guns regardless. I don't see how the ban is going to lower the crime rate. If anything it will just make a criminal's job easier since we'll be left defenseless.

In the editorial "Gun control on a roll", the audience is basically everyone who believes we should have "the right to keep and bear arms". He talks about how the National Rifle Association really didn't want Sonia Sotomayor in the Supreme Court because she is against gun ownership. The president of the Brady Campaign, Paul Helmke, said "that politicians can vote against the NRA and still win, and win in gun-friendly areas". Helmke sees Sotomayor as a good thing, but the polls say something different. Most people would be against re-electing a senator who supports a Supreme Court nominee who does not believe in allowing people to own guns. So that should keep them on their toes come next election.

What is my take on the whole gun thing? I really don't see why having a gun is an issue. I know so many people who do, even my mom does! But that doesn't mean they're going to go on a killing spree. I just think people need to be responsible.

The People's Choice

Health care! Not everyone has it, but everyone should! And that's what Obama is trying to do!

So Fox News took a poll about "Which health care system would you prefer?", and 46% said they're fine with their current provider. I've been looking up polls from different websites and most people don't agree with changing the health care system, but these are just polls. From what I've been hearing, most people do want a change. I'm sure a lot of people are unhappy with their current provider (as am I). I'm sure they would rather have affordable health insurance, and not have to worry about being turned down because of a previous illness...
Hopefully there's change for the better. This video and article is worth looking at because this is a very hot topic and a very important one!

This is a good outline of the different health plans.
